Beziers Airport Departures (BZR)

Béziers is one of the airports in the Languedoc Roussillon region of France, and handles approximately 130,000 passengers per annum. It is only a few kilometres from the large town of Béziers, and from several popular holiday resorts, such as Cap d’Agde. The airport is in the Hérault department of the country, and nearby the southern coastline of France. It has the official airport code of BZR, and due to its location, is known as the Béziers Cap d’Agde Airport. Béziers departures are offered to a number of destinations, by a few airline companies, and the terminal building of the airport has various facilities for arriving and departing passengers.

Passengers on departure flights from Béziers can reach the airport by several forms of available transport, or in their own motor vehicle, as there is an adequate parking lot nearby the airport terminal. A popular way to travel is by bus, as buses are available for each arrival and departure flight at the airport. Buses leave from the Béziers bus station in the town, as well as from other areas, such as Vias, Agde and Marseillan. The bus companies in operation to and from Béziers Airport include the Béziers Méditerranée and Hérault Transports. There is also the Cap’Bus, which is a newer service, offering a variety of routes from Cap d’Agde, some of which include those to the main beaches of the area. Although a good selection of buses serve the airport, passengers will not be able to reach it by train, as there is no train station on the airport grounds. However, free shuttle buses take passengers from the Béziers train station to the Béziers bus station, from where buses are available to the airport. Taxis or private transfers can also be arranged from any destination nearby.

Departing passengers can safely leave their vehicles at the car parking lot, found directly in front of the terminal building. It is a paid-parking area, but is available at reasonable rates. Motorists will also find the airport easy to access by road, as the D612 runs past the airport from Béziers, as well as from Vias and Agde, and the major A9 and A75 Autoroutes are nearby as well. Other roads in the vicinity include the D13, the D37 and the D912.

Béziers Airport departures are offered by the airline carriers of Ryanair and Flybe, of which Ryanair holds the majority of destinations at the airport. After the expansion of its runway in 2007, Béziers has become a more viable location for low-cost airline companies. A slightly lengthier runway meant that the airport was then able to accommodate the larger-sized aircraft, similar to the Boeing 737 jets, which are favoured by low cost carriers. Ryanair makes regular departures to Paris Beauvais, Bristol, London-Luton, Oslo Rygge, Dusseldorf Weeze and to Stockholm-Skavsta, while Flybe offers flights to Southampton in the United Kingdom.

There is a single terminal building at Béziers Airport, reasonably equipped with facilities for the needs of all passengers, and it is a modern construction. Within the departures area, there are four check-in desks, two boarding lounges and a bar. Facilities within the main terminal area include a quick-service restaurant, a few shops, Wi-Fi connections and a cash point. In addition, there are scales which may be used free of charge by passengers who wish to check the weight of their baggage items. There are no full-service banks at the airport, or currency exchange facilities. The terminal is fully equipped for the departure of passengers with reduced mobility.

Passengers on Ryanair flights can check-in from two hours before the airplane is scheduled for departure, provided that it is also before 40 minutes of the departure time. Passengers arriving late will not be permitted to board. Béziers is only a small airport, therefore less time is needed for finding parking and the check-in desk etc., but it is always recommended to arrive early for your flight. Ensure that your baggage is clearly labelled, inside and out, with your name, surname and address, and that it does not contain any prohibited items. Be especially careful with hand luggage, as many seemingly innocent items are now banned on airplanes. No object that could be used as a weapon, whether blunt or sharp, may be carried on board.

Passengers departing from Béziers will also need to comply with the new regulations that surround liquids in hand luggage. In general, all liquid substances must be placed in containers of no more than 100ml each, and then placed in a transparent and re-sealable plastic bag. The total contents of the bag should be no more than one litre. Security personnel at the airport will then check the bag and its contents. There are exceptions to the rules, for example, parents may bring unlimited supplies of baby food and milk aboard, and persons who require certain special dietary foods may bring larger quantities of liquids. Passengers may, however, bring unlimited quantities of liquids in their hold luggage. The following items are considered as liquids:  gels, pasty substances, liquid/solid mixtures and the contents of pressurised containers, for example, toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, syrups, shaving cream, perfumes, aerosols etc.

Passengers can go to the information desk within the terminal building for all further enquiries, or can view live Béziers departures on many online websites. The airport can also be contacted at 04 67 809 909.
