Europcar Car Rental at Basel
Europcar Basel Airport
Basel-Mulhouse Airport, or the EuroAirport, has an interesting location nearby the border of Switzerland and Germany, as it is found just outside of Saint-Louis, France. The airport is therefore divided into two sections, one for France arrivals and departures and the other for Swiss airport operations. There is also a customs road which links the airport directly to the city of Basel, with no need for any border control procedures. Facilities at the airport are vast, and include the Basel-Mulhouse Airport car hire companies, such as Europcar. Europcar is one of the most popular car rental companies in many European countries, and have offices at most airports in France.
Passengers arriving at Basel-Mulhouse Airport can ‘cross the border’ between the two sections of the airport at the departure area, found on the third level of the terminal building, by showing their travel documents, however, the car rental companies have offices on both sides of the airport. Europcar is found in Hall 1 on the France side, and in Hall 4 of the Swiss side, and these parts of the airport are on level 2 of the terminal, which is the arrival area. The rented cars of Europcar Basel-Mulhouse Airport are found nearby the terminal as well. Flights at the airport are mainly in operation between 05:30 and midnight, but the terminal is open twenty-four hours a day. Europcar is also open to meet the majority of arrival flights.
The car driven from Basel-Mulhouse Airport will depend on from which sector (France or Swiss) you rent it, and the rental terms and conditions of each side may differ as well. On the French side, the primary renter is required to be just eighteen years of age or older, while on the Swiss side, all drivers should meet the minimum age requirement of 20. In both ‘countries’ younger drivers, under the age of 25, will pay higher rental rates, for young drivers insurance. This is a small amount added to each day of car hire, and for each underage driver listed on the rental contract, usually up until a maximum of ten rental days. The primary renter will always need a major credit card, for example, American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard, Mastercard or Visa, in order to pay for the car rental service provided. Foreign customers should also find out from Europcar if they will require an International Driving Permit, or if their local license will be sufficient. Most are accepted, provided that they are printed in English.
The Basel-Mulhouse Airport car rental companies on each side of the airport offer a variety of vehicles. In France, passengers will be able to hire the smaller Renault Twingo or Peugeot 207 at low rental rates, and can drive these eco-friendly and fuel efficient little cars to all destinations in France. If you would like to return your vehicle to another rental location, find out more about the Europcar one way hire service, and also clarify to which countries the car is allowed to be driven should you plan to cross borders. On the Swiss side of Basel-Mulhouse Airport, one way hires are also permitted. A car returned within the same country will not usually incur any additional charges. Other popular vehicles to hire from Europcar, in France, include the Renault Megane, Volkswagen Polo, Renault Laguna and the Renault Grand Scenic, while for larger groups of travellers, a minivan or van can be hired, similar to the Renault Espace for seven and the Mercedes Vito for nine. Keep in mind however, that larger cars, or specialty vehicles, may be subject to low availability.
Swiss cars from Europcar are eco-friendly as well, and include the Hyundai I10 1.2, Seat Ibiza 1.2, VW Polo 1.4, VW Golf 1.4 and VW Passat 1.8. The VW Caddy and the VW Touran are available for seven passengers. Vehicles from Europcar will be hired by category, rather than by their specific makes and models, therefore, customers will receive either the same vehicle as mentioned as an example, or a vehicle which is very similar in size and characteristics. Either way, all Europcar’s vehicles are of the highest quality, with low mileage and various safety features, such as air bags and ABS brakes. Their cars are regularly checked for safety as well.
A quote from Europcar will include all licenses and fees associated with the vehicle or rental location, the mandatory airport surcharge and VAT. Customers will also be able to add any ‘extras’ they would like to include in their rental, such as the hire of equipment and car insurances. Child seats, satellite navigation systems and luggage racks may be available, as well as Europcar hand controls for disabled drivers. All items selected, besides hand controls, will cost a bit extra per day of hire. From Basel-Mulhouse Airport, hand controls, as well as any other item of equipment required, should be reserved in advance, as Europcar cannot guarantee their availability upon your arrival without a reservation.
Europcar, known as the ‘World’s Leading Leisure Car Rental Company’, promises their customers excellent service, and only the latest model rental cars. Most vehicles include unlimited mileage and will come with twenty-four hour roadside assistance. Customers fond of this company can also apply for the Privilege Card, and receive additional benefits and discounts for each rental.
