National Car Rental at Basel
National Basel Airport
Basel-Mulhouse Airport is the only bi-national airport in the world, and is strategically located in the heart of Western Europe, providing access to three economically thriving areas (Alsace, North West Switzerland and Baden-Würtemberg). The airport lies nearby the borders between France and Switzerland, and between France and Germany, and has three official airport codes – BSL, MLH and EAP, which is the international code of the airport. Basel-Mulhouse Airport, or the EuroAirport, is located in Saint-Louis, France, and handles over four million passengers per annum. Car rental options are available from National Basel-Mulhouse Airport, and National is a popular car hire company for business rentals.
The Basel-Mulhouse Airport has a section for France arrivals and departures, and a section for all Swiss airport operations, as well as a special customers road which links the city of Basel to the airport, without the need for passing French border controls. The airport is served by a wide range of airline carriers, including Air France and Swiss International Airlines, and flights are offered to approximately 62 airports in over thirty countries. On the second, third and fourth floors of the large terminal building, there are various facilities for arriving and departing passengers. The departure area is found on level 3, while arrivals is on the second floor. The Basel-Mulhouse Airport car rental companies are found on the second floor as well, and they have offices in both sectors of the airport. National in ‘France’ is found in Hall 1, and National in ‘Switzerland’ is found in Hall 4. Cars are recommended to be hired from this location in advance, as the airport can be very busy at times.
The two National offices are open at various times throughout the week, and the following times can be used as a guideline for the Swiss office: Monday to Friday – 07:00 to 23:00, Saturdays from 08:00 to 23:00 and Sundays from 09:00 to 23:00. At the Bale Mulhouse Airport, in the France section, National is open from 07:00 to 22:30, Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 17:00 on Saturdays and from 04:15 to 22:30 on Sundays. Customers may be able to arrange an out-of-office hours return, or a National one way hire, should it be applicable to their holiday or business trip. A one way rental is when a vehicle is returned to a different location than from where it was collected, and may be more convenient for customers leaving France (or Switzerland) from another airport. From Basel-Mulhouse Airport, one way hires may require an advanced reservation, and any costs involved will depend on the return location selected.
Besides just vehicles, the Basel-Mulhouse Airport car hire companies offer their customers additional services, such as the rental of equipment that can be used for their rented car. These items may include child seats for younger travellers, luggage racks for more packing space and satellite navigation systems for all drivers who are unfamiliar with the area in which they will be driving. Although extra equipment will add a bit more to your rental quote, certain items can be essential for safe travelling, and may even be required by law. National hand controls for disabled drivers can be requested before forty-eight hours of the vehicle collection time, and are useful for drivers with a lower limb disability. The device operates the main functions of the vehicle (brake and accelerator pedals) and may include steering wheel knob. From the Basel-Mulhouse Airport, hand controls are available free of charge.
National is a car rental company with over fifty years of experience in the industry, and have mainly focused their attention of providing car hire services for the frequent airport business traveller, however, they also offer very valuable services for holiday renters. National was the first company to offer a comprehensive frequent renter program, and also helped to pioneer the corporate-account business. National’s program for their loyal customers is called Emerald Club, and members of the club enjoy many time and money saving benefits.
