National Car Rental at Nantes Airport

Nantes Airport has the official code of NTE, and is located approximately 8km, or 5 miles from the city centre. It is also particularly nearby Bouguenais, Bouaye and La Montagne. The airport is the largest in the west of France, and is well known as the Nantes Atlantique Airport. Buses and taxis are available for transport to and from the airport, but many passengers prefer to rent a car from one of the car rental companies. The airport of Nantes consists of a single terminal building that has two levels on the one side and one level on the other. It is shaped as an ‘L’, with three halls on the longer side and one hall on the shorter side. The facilities of the halls 1 to 3 are spread across two levels, with the baggage reclaim areas and check-in desks on the ground floor and the departure lounges on the upper level. Hall 4 is found in the shorter side of the building, and is a single level facility connected to the rest of the airport by a lobby area. Passengers will find the car hire companies in outside buildings, just opposite the main passenger terminal. They are also located right next to the car rental parking area, from where the rented cars will be collected. Cars which are not arranged as National one way hires will be returned to this area as well. However, from Nantes Airport, a one way hire is a good option for customers who will not be driving back to the airport, and who would prefer to deliver their vehicle to a different rental location.

The Nantes Airport car hire companies are open during most hours of the day and later evening, seven days a week. National is open from 07:00 to 22:30, Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays between 08:00 and 22:00. They are also available on Sundays between the hours of 07:30 and 22:30. Vehicles from National are available in a variety of car groups, and customers will therefore select a category, rather than a vehicle by its specific make and model. Should a vehicle not be available from your chosen category, a vehicle from the next group will be allocated to your rental period, but at the same price as originally quoted for the category of your choice. National may also try their best to provide a vehicle of a specific model should it be requested. In the Economy category, smaller cars such as the Peugeot 207 1.4 are available, and these are cars with some of the best rental rates. They are also fuel efficient, and ideal for up to five passengers. Although their space for luggage is limited, they have features such as power steering, power locks and windows, air conditioning and driver and passenger airbags.

Of a slightly larger size, the Peugeot 308 1.6 can be hired from the Compact Wagon category, and the Ford Mondeo 1.6 and Peugeot 3008 1.6 are available as Intermediate vehicles. These cars are ideal for families as they offer more room for luggage, and may feature cruise control and various other useful amenities. For even greater luggage room, station wagons such as the Citroen C5 2.0 are ideal, and for a larger number of passengers, Vans can seat between seven and nine people. Vans from National are similar to the Citroen Grand Picasso C4 2.0, Citroen C8 2.0 and the Citroen Jumpy 2.2, which is one of National’s larger vehicles. Alternative options are SUVs such as the Ford Kuga 2.0, and more elegant Mercedes models found in the Luxury category.  

Nantes Airport car rental companies offer vehicles with a manual or automatic transmission, and those which use ordinary petrol or diesel. Customers should always ensure that they know which type of fuel to use for their rented car, and that they are comfortable with the type of transmission that the car uses. Certain types of automatic vehicles are also suitable for hand controls requested by disabled drivers. National’s hand controls are free of charge, and ideal for customers with a lower limb deficiency, as they operate the accelerator and brake pedals. From Nantes Airport, hand controls should be reserved in advance, as they are only available for certain types of vehicles.

The primary renter and additional drivers at National will need to be at least 21 years of age, and should have a valid drivers license which will need to be shown when collecting the vehicle. National accepts most driving licenses, provided that they are printed in English, and must have been held for at least a year prior to the rental date. However, an International Driving Permit may be required from individuals from certain countries. The primary renter will also need a major credit card, such as American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa, for payment of the rental period.
