Avis Tours Airport
Tours Airport is located only 6km, or 3.2 miles north-northwest of the city of Tours, in the Indre-et-Loire department of France. This airport in the Loire Valley, although small, serves as an important gateway to the city of Tours and all other surrounding areas. Due to it’s location, it is commonly referred to as the Tours Val de Loire Airport, and it has the official IATA code of TUF. Facilities for arriving passengers include car rental companies, such as Avis Tours Airport. Avis has vehicles that are suitable for leisure travel and vehicles ideal for corporate rentals, and are amongst one of the most popular car hire companies in the world.
Tours Airport dates back to the 1930’s, and has served as a military and passenger airport during it’s years of existence. Today it has a single terminal building adequate for the needs of it’s passengers, and has grown steadily in traffic numbers over the recent years. In 2009 the airport had 111,000 passengers but in 2010 it saw 123,000 passengers. Only a slight decrease was experienced in 2011, with 121,000 passengers. Nearby the terminal, at the long stay car park, passengers will find the Tours Airport car rental companies, which include Avis, Hertz, National, Alamo and Europcar. Avis is one of the favourite choices, and is available at the following hours: Monday – 14:00 to 15:00, Tuesday – 13:45 to 16:30, Thursday – 13:45 to 14:30, Friday – 14:00 to 15:00 and on Saturdays from 13:45 to 15:00. The car rental companies of the airport are only open during select hours to meet passengers of Ryanair flight arrivals, as Ryanair is the main airline company operating from/to the airport.
Each car rental company has their own terms and conditions which need to met, however, Avis’ are quite easy to understand, and are well explained on their website. This airport location requires the primary renter to be at least 21 for all car groups besides the following, which have a minimum age requirement of 25: E (Fullsize), F (Standard), G (Convertible), M, N and O (Vans). For any driver under the age of 25, young driver fees will be applicable. This is an amount of 25.00 Euro per day (per underage driver), up until a maximum of ten rental days. All Tours Airport car hire companies charge extra for young drivers insurance, however, their fees may differ. All insurances, such as collision damage waiver and theft protection, are optional for cars hired at Tours Airport, but they are recommended. If purchased locally from Avis, the insurance excess may be reduced or even removed. One of the following credit cards will be required to pay for the rental: Avis Charge Cards, American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard, Mastercard or Visa, with the exception of Kyriel, Maestro, Electron and Indigo.
Sometimes tourists would like to drive their rented car out of France and into another country. Their rental agreement is then referred to as a cross-border rental, and if the vehicle is returned to another Avis rental location, it is known as a one way hire. From Tours Airport, one way hire services can be quite convenient for persons with a more extensive travel itinerary, and who plan not to leave France from the same airport. Avis one way hires could incur additional charges, but it will depend on the length of the rental and the return location. Cars hired from Avis may not be driven to Greece, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic States, and are not permitted to the Republic of Ireland. Keep in mind that vehicles heading for Switzerland will require a special tax sticker for travelling on Swiss highways. Avis’ vehicles may be taken to the islands of Corsica and Sardinia, but will then need to be returned to a rental location on the mainland.
From the Tours Airport car hire companies, various items of equipment are available for hire with the vehicle. Avis child seats and satellite navigation systems are most popular choices for additional items. Child seats from Avis come in various sizes, the smaller ones suitable for infants and booster seats ideal for older children. Specify the age of your child in order to ensure the correct size of seat is reserved for your vehicle. Vehicles and equipment are recommended to be reserved in advance. Avis hand controls for disabled drivers is another device perhaps available from the airport rental location of Tours Airport. Hand controls operate the accelerator and brake pedals of the vehicle, are free of charge and may include a steering wheel knob for additional driving assistance.
The Renault Twingo, Opel Corsa, Citroen C3 and Peugeot 308 are some of Avis’ smaller cars that can be rented by anyone twenty-one years of age or older. They are found in the Subcompact, Economy and Compact categories, and are ideal for all types of driving. They seat four or five passengers, but have limited space for luggage. They are also mostly five-door vehicles, apart from the Renault Twingo, and have features such as a manual transmission and air conditioning. Larger vehicles for hire include the Citroen C5, Renault Scenic and Citroen Grand Picasso C4 (for up to seven passengers) in the Intermediate category, the Mercedes Classe A in the Standard category and the BMW Series 3 in the Premium category. There are also vans for hire from Avis, similar to the Opel Zafira, Renault Espace and Renault Traffic Combi.
