Lyon St Exupery Airport Departures (LYS)

Lyon Airport serves both domestic and international destinations. There is a variety of airlines that operate from the airport’s two terminals (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2), with Arrivals on level 1 and Departures on level 2. The two terminals are linked with a large central building.

Some of the domestic destinations include Bordeaux, Toulouse and Nantes, while possible international destinations are Portugal, Egypt, Romania and certain African locations. Some of the major airlines at the airport are Lufthansa, KLM, Air France and British Airways.

Passengers are recommended to arrive at Lyon Airport 1 - 2 hours before their domestic departure, and 2 - 3 hours before an international flight. Allow sufficient time to find adequate parking in any one of the five parking areas. Parking areas P5 and P6 require a shuttle bus to reach the terminals, therefore allow a little extra time for parking in these areas.

Carry-on luggage

Only your most essential items should be bought with as hand luggage. Try to pack as much as possible in your checked baggage. Hand luggage will need to be inspected by the security officer. Items such as a laptop should be taken out of its case for inspection. Certain items are prohibited and these include toy guns, fire arms, knives, blunt instruments, ammunition, inflammable liquids and any item that can cause incapacitation.

From 2006, the new regulations were set for the requirements of carrying liquids on board the airplane. Each liquid should be placed in a container/tube with a capacity of no more than 100ml. Please the containers in a clear, re-sealable plastic bag with a total capacity that does not exceed 1 liter (i.e. 10 containers). The bag should only measure 20cm by 20cm. Liquids that are purchased airside may be carried onboard, and there are no limitations for special dietary foodstuffs, baby food and essential medicines. Any liquids should be separately presented at the security inspection.

After your hand luggage is checked, you will be required to walk through a metal detector. All metal items, such as coins, credit cards, calculators, mobile phones, belts etc. should be removed. Avoid wearing steel-reinforced shoes! You may be frisked if you set of the metal detector or if you are selected at random.

Checked luggage

Passengers at Lyon Airport should confirm with their airline, the number and size of checked luggage items permitted, to avoid additional fees. Explosives, ammunition, inflammable liquids, solids and gases, corrosive products, toxic substances and neutralizing or incapacitating items may not be packed in checked luggage.

Additional Services and Information

Disabled/reduced mobility passengers may arrange for special assistance by informing the airline of their needs at the time of reservation. The reception area for disabled passengers is at Arivée 27 in Terminal 2. Guide dogs may travel with you provided that they wear a muzzle.

Children between the ages of 4 and 12 that are traveling alone will be assisted and looked after by the airline staff. This service should be arranged before departure.

Always watch your baggage carefully, report any suspicious or abandoned bags and, for your own safety, do not accept baggage that belongs to someone else.

Lyon Airport has all the facilities required for a pleasant and smooth departure. There are baby changing facilities, cash machines, a medical center and plenty of shopping and dining opportunities.
