National Car Rental at Grenoble Airport

Grenoble Airport is located approximately 45km north-west of Grenoble, and in the Isère department of France. It is also particularly nearby the commune of Saint-Etienne-de-Saint-Geoirs. The airport is international, serving many passengers from the United Kingdom, as well as from other European countries, as it is considered an important gateway to the French Alps, with around 200 ski resorts. Grenoble-Saint-Geoirs Airport (GNB) is well equipped for its arriving passengers, and there are various transport options available, including car hire companies such as National Grenoble Airport. National is one of the ‘car rental giants’ of the world, offering high quality services at thousands of airport locations in Europe and beyond.

The Grenoble Airport car hire companies are found on the airport grounds, just outside the single terminal building, and are open to meet the majority of the airport’s arrival flights. The terminal is a relatively new building, completed in October 2002, and is therefore modern and efficient for all airport operations. Within the arrival area, there are tourist information desks, cash machines and other useful amenities, and within the terminal, there are bar and restaurant facilities, a multi-store, a VIP lounge and meeting rooms. There are two arrival areas, three boarding lounges and 26 check-in desks. The car hire companies, including National, are easy to find outside the terminal, and the vehicles for hire are parked nearby as well.

In a rented car is the most convenient way to travel the Grenoble area, and to reach all the wonderful attractions of the Isère department. Many passengers rent a car in order to travel to the mountains for their skiing holiday as well. The main road of Grenoble Airport is the D119, which links to the A48. This Autoroute runs south to the city of Grenoble, and north towards the A43, which heads towards the larger city of Lyon. It will take just forty-five minutes by car to reach Lyon, an hour to reach Chambery and half an hour to reach Grenoble. Each of these cities boast their own array of historical and religious sites, and other attractions. In the Grenoble area, there are also several large lakes for all sorts of water-related activities, and these are enjoyed by many locals and visitors. In the winter, skiing is a popular sport, and the ski resorts within an hour’s drive of Grenoble Airport include Chamrousse, Le Pleynet, Autrans and Alpe d’Huez. With private transport it is also easy to travel to Annecy, Albertville, Bourg-en-Bresse, Valence and Avignon.

Cars for hire from the Grenoble Airport car rental companies, and from National, are only of the latest models, and are considered to be in excellent mechanical condition. They are mostly hired by car category rather than by specific make and model, and customers will receive a similar (if not the same) vehicle to the examples mentioned for each car group on National’s website. Many come with some nice features, such as air conditioning, power steering, anti-lock brakes, power locks and windows, driver and passenger air bags and folding rear seats. The Intermediate Ford Mondeo 1.6 even has a multi function steering wheel, and the Ford Kuga 2.0 has split folding rear seats and cruise control. Other car groups and their example vehicles from National include Economy (Peugeot 207 1.4), Compact Wagon (Peugeot 308 1.6), Standard (VW Passat 1.8), Standard Wagon (Citroen C5 2.0), Fullsize (Audi A4 1.9), Fullsize Wagon (Mercedes C200 CDI 2.0) and Luxury (Mercedes E250 2.5). There are also Vans for hire, which are ideal for groups of travellers, and similar to the Citroen Grand Picasso C4 2.0 and Citroen Jumpy 2.2.

National’s customers will need to be at least 21 years of age in order to hire from some car groups, but 25 years of age to hire specialty or larger vehicles. A valid drivers license will be requested at the time of collection, and a major credit card will be needed to pay for the rental. Rented cars may be arranged as National one way hires, and from Grenoble Airport, one way hires may be driven and returned to any other rental location within the country, or even delivered to a National branch in a different country. However, cross-border rentals may be more expensive, and it is best to confirm the details with National in advance of your arrival at the airport. Remember to also include any additional item of equipment in your rental, for example, a child seat or satellite navigation system. Luggage racks, ski racks and vehicles with winter tyres may also be available.

For disabled drivers at National, hand controls can be arranged, and are a device used by persons with a lower limb disability, as it operates the brake and accelerator pedals on automatic vehicles. They are available free of charge from the rental location of Grenoble Airport. Hand controls should however, be reserved at least forty-eight hours prior to collection of the vehicle, in order to ensure their availability.

National, at Grenoble Airport, will be happy to assist with all further car rental enquiries.
