Pau Airport is a public establishment located in south-western France, and is operated by the Pau Chamber of Commerce. It is officially known as the Pau-Pyrénées Airport, due to its location in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of the country, and has the official airport code of PUF. Almost 700,000 passengers passed through Pau Airport in 2010, and therefore it is considered as one of the smaller French airports, but an important gateway nonetheless. The majority of the airports passengers are national, however, international flights are offered to and from several locations. Alamo Pau Airport is one of the car hire companies available, and is a popular choice for leisure travellers. Alamo offers competitive car rental rates from this airport location as well.
The rental counters of Alamo are found in the arrival hall of Pau Airport, and are accessible from all parts of the terminal building. The airport can handle up to a million passengers per annum, and is therefore adequately sized for its current number of passengers, which range between 2,500 and 3,000 per day. The building is also quite easy to find your way around, and all facilities are clearly indicated in English and French. The airport’s main operating hours are from 05:00 to 22:45, and Alamo is open Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 12:00, and from 14:00 to 19:00. They are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and their hours may vary on public holidays. The Pau Airport car hire companies all have their vehicles parked in a nearby car park of the airport, and no further transport is needed in order to collect the vehicle.
With an advanced reservation, Alamo is able to have your ideal car ready and waiting at the airport, and will also make sure that any additional items of equipment requested are available. These items may include child seats, luggage racks, satellite navigation systems or even Alamo hand controls for disabled drivers. In France, it is required by law for passengers in a vehicle to wear seatbelts, and a navigation system is often considered to be most useful to those unfamiliar with the area. Equipment hired is usually of high quality, and well worth the few extra Euro. However, from the rental location of Pau Airport, hand controls are free of charge for persons with a lower limb disorder. They are a device which operates the accelerator and brake pedals of an automatic vehicle, and may include a steering wheel knob. Hand controls will require an earlier reservation.
Once arriving at the airport, simply go to the rental counters of Alamo to collect your vehicle. Alamo will need to see a valid drivers license from all the drivers registered on the rental contract, and may also require other documents, such as a return airline ticket or other form of identification. In general, most local licenses printed in English are accepted, but always confirm with Alamo if an IDP (International Driving Permit) will be required if you are arriving from a foreign country. Customers from the United Kingdom with the new two-part license must show both the paper part and durable card portion. All drivers should be present in person to show their licenses, and should meet the minimum age requirement of this rental location, which is 21. Younger drivers however (all under the age of 25), will pay a little extra per day of car hire for young drivers insurance, and may not be able to hire from certain vehicle categories which contain larger or specialty vehicles. For payment of the rented car, a credit card in the name of the primary renter will be used, as cash and debit cards are not often accepted. American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard, Mastercard and Visa are acceptable forms of payment, and sometimes the car hire companies offer their own charge cards.
The Pau Airport car rental companies often have special benefits for certain customers who belong to their ‘club’ or frequent-renter programs. At Alamo, customers can join the Quicksilver membership, and enjoy faster rentals, reservations and returns, take advantage of the counter bypass options available and will receive special member-only deals. Persons who rent a car quite often will benefit from such a membership, as valuable time and money can be saved. The Quicksilver membership from Alamo is free of charge, and available for all customers.
From Pau Airport, one way hire options are available from most of the car hire companies, including Alamo. One way hires allow customers to return their vehicle to a different rental location, and may be driven to all parts of France, as well as to other European countries. Alamo’s vehicles are hired from various car groups, for example, Economy, Compact Wagon, Midsize, Standard, Fullsize Wagon, Premium Sport, Van and SUV. Examples of smaller cars include the Peugeot 207 1.4, Peugeot 308 1.6 and the Ford Mondeo 1.6, while larger cars hired are similar to the VW Passat 1.8, Citroen C5 2.0, Audi A4 1.9, Mercedes C200 CDI 2.0, Citroen Grand Picasso C4 2.0, Citroen C8 2.0, Citroen Jumpy 2.2 and the Ford Kuga 2.0. All of Alamo’s vehicles have excellent features, such as air conditioning, driving and passenger airbags, power steering, anti-lock brakes and power locks and windows. Some even have folding rear seats, split folding rear seats, cruise control, a leather interior and are hired with a GPS unit including in their rental.
