Pau handles passenger traffic of around 700,000 per annum, and is therefore one of the airports of medium size in the country of France. It is located a few kilometres north-west from the city for which it is named, and in the commune of Uzein, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department. The airport is nearby a number of significant towns and attractions, and is therefore an important gateway for tourists. Officially, it is known as the Pau-Pyrénées Airport. Transport options from the airport include by bus and taxi, and by rented car, from one of the airport car hire companies, such as Auto Europa Pau Airport. Auto Europa is a large and respected car rental company, with thousands of rental locations around the world.
The car rental counters of the various companies available at the airport are found in the arrival hall, and are generally open at the times of the arrival flights of the airline companies operating scheduled and holiday flights. There is just a single terminal building for passengers, and the arrival area is on the ground floor, while departure proceedings are handled from the upper level. A variety of facilities are available, including shops and restaurants, a business centre, ATMs, WiFi connections and public telephones. There are also information services for customers who would like to find out more about the attractions of the area. Passengers requiring a hire car from Auto Europa are recommended to make an advanced reservation, as an early booking could result in lower rental rates. It is also best to know that your ideal car will be available upon your arrival at the airport.
The Pau Airport car hire companies may offer exclusive or inclusive prices, and they all offer a wide choice of vehicles for hire. Auto Europa’s cars are divided into various car groups, and they have either a basic rate or an inclusive rate. Customers can therefore choose the option which is better suited to their needs. The basic rate covers the costs of third party liability insurance, fire insurance and VAT, while the all inclusive rate covers the same, as well as collision damage waiver insurance and theft protection insurance. The inclusive rate is most convenient for those who do not wish to arrange their own vehicle insurance. Rentals from Auto Europa also include unlimited mileage, apart from a few of the convertibles and luxury vehicles.
Auto Europa has one of the best selections of vehicles out of all the Pau car rental companies. There are small cars ideal for single drivers or couples and larger vehicles which are more suitable for families with a couple of luggage items. There are also more elegant vehicles for business travellers and vans for groups of travellers. The smaller cars are more affordable, with the best rental rates, and are found in the Economy and Compact vehicle categories. They may be similar to the Renault Twingo, Volkswagen Polo, Renault Clio, Volkswagen Golf or Renault Scenic. Midsize cars include the Audi A3 and the Renault Laguna, while Fullsize vehicles are similar to the Audi A4. Auto Europa’s cars may come with air conditioning and many other nice amenities. They are also only of the latest models, and are regularly checked for safety.
From Auto Europa, one way hires may be possible to arrange, and are the ideal options for customers who would prefer to leave their rented car at a different location, and not drive back to the airport. One way hires may be driven to any town or city in France, and even to locations in other nearby European countries, for example Spain, where the city of Jaca is just an hour and a half’s drive away. Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium are other countries bordering France. It is also possible to hire items of equipment for your rented car, for example, a satellite navigation system or child seat. These items will cost a few extra Euro per day of hire, but can be essential for a safe and easy trip in France. Auto Europa hand controls for disabled drivers are used by persons with a lower limb disability, and from Pau Airport, hand controls are available free of charge. They do however, require a reservation.
To hire a car from the airport, and from Auto Europa, the primary renter and all additional drivers registered on the rental contract will need to meet the minimum age requirement of 21, and must show a valid drivers license upon collection of the vehicle. Most local licenses printed in English are accepted, but in some cases, an International Driving Permit will be required. An IDP will most likely be required by persons with a license that is printed in a non-Roman alphabet. Another requirement is that the person be driving in their country of residence for at least a year prior to the rental date. Drivers on the rental contract who are younger than 25 years of age will be charged for young drivers insurance, which is a small amount applicable per day of car hire, usually up until a maximum of ten rental days. Younger drivers may not be permitted to hire from certain vehicle categories.
For rental payments, the customer will need a major credit card in his/her name. Auto Europa accepts the cards of American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard, Mastercard and Visa. For all further details, contact Auto Europa, at the airport.
