National Pau Airport
Pau Airport is located just a few kilometres outside of Pau city, and in the commune of Uzein, in south-western France. The airport serves the city of Pau, as well as many surrounding areas in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department. The cities of Tarbes and Lourdes are found nearby, and the Pyrénées ski resorts are within an hour’s drive from the airport. It is therefore a popular arrival point for tourists, and is an airport of reasonable size, handling almost 700,000 passengers per annum. Although buses and taxis are available, many passengers prefer to rent a car, from a company such as National Pau Airport. National is one of the larger car rental networks of the world, and have thousands of rental locations in many different countries.
Pau Airport, otherwise known as the Pau-Pyrénées Airport, with the official airport code of PUF, is an important gateway to the Pyrenean National Park, the Sanctuary of Lourdes and the ski resorts of the nearby mountain areas. It is also just an hour from the beaches of the Landes and the Basque Coast. In the west, the Bayonne, Biarritz and Anglet agglomeration is the last major seaside resort area before the border of Spain. National provides the ideal cars for travelling to all these areas and others nearby, and is an excellent choice of car rental company. At the airport, their rental counters are found in the arrival hall, and they are open on weekdays, from 08:00 to 12:00, and from 14:00 to 19:00. Passengers are recommended to book their vehicle from National as early as possible, in order to secure the lowest rental rates.
National is a car rental company which has provided quality vehicles for their customers for over fifty years. They have mainly focused their business on the rental needs of the frequent airport corporate traveller, by offering comprehensive frequent-renter programs and corporate account profiles which are financially beneficial, however, many of their vehicles are suitable for hire by leisure customers as well. Their cars are all of the latest models, and are regularly checked for safety. Rentals generally include unlimited mileage and twenty-four hour emergency breakdown assistance. Vehicle quotes may also include third party liability insurance, VAT and all fees and licenses which are applicable to the rental location or vehicle. Customers will need to add any other types of insurance required, such as collision damage waiver and theft protection, and any additional item of equipment requested will cost a few extra Euro per day of hire. Additional drivers registered on the rental agreement will be extra as well, and customers under the age of 25 will pay young driver fees, which is an amount applicable to each day of car hire, usually up until a maximum of ten rental days.
Similar to most of the Pau Airport car hire companies, National customers will need to be at least 21 years of age to rent a car, and must have a drivers license which proves they have been driving in their country of residence for a year prior to the rental date. In some cases, an International Driving Permit is required. The primary renter should have a major credit card in his/her name for payment. Further options from the Pau Airport car rental companies include one way hires and hand controls for disabled drivers. National one way hires are when the vehicle is returned to a different rental location, and is convenient for those who are not driving back to Pau Airport. One way hires may be a little more expensive than an ordinary rental. Pau Airport is equipped for disabled passengers, and National hand controls can be requested by customers who have a lower limb disability. Customers unable to drive may also still be the primary renter of the vehicle, by allocating a free additional driver to the rental contract. From the rental location of Pau Airport, hand controls are free of charge as well.
The best car to hire will be one which is large enough to comfortably seat your passengers, and large enough for your items of luggage, yet still offer affordable rental rates. Vehicles which are of an average size include the Ford Mondeo 1.6, Peugeot 3008 1.6 and the VW Passat 1.8, which are found in the Midsize and Standard car categories. They have room for five passengers and a couple of luggage items, and often have some nice features, such as air conditioning, power steering and cruise control. The larger wagons from National can store more luggage, and include the Citroen C5 2.0 and the Mercedes C200 CDI 2.0. Customers will less luggage to carry can get away with a smaller car, such as the Peugeot 207 1.4 in the Economy category. Business customers can hire a Luxury car from National, similar to the Mercedes E250 2.5, while groups of travellers will enjoy a van, with room for seven or eight passengers. Vans are similar to the Citroen Grand Picasso C4 2.0, Citroen C8 2.0 and the Citroen Jumpy 2.2.
All rented cars are delivered to the customer with a full tank of fuel, and there are various fuel options for the renter. If fuel is purchased upfront, the car should be returned as empty as possible, as no refunds are given for unused fuel, however, if no fuel is purchased, the car must be returned as it was collected, with a full tank. Longer rentals usually require the customer to purchase a full tank of fuel at the beginning of the rental period. Always ensure that you know which type of fuel to use for your hire car.
