National Strasbourg Airport
Strasbourg Airport is found in the Alsace region of France, approximately 10km west of the city centre of Strasbourg. The airport is known as the Aeroport de Strasbourg, and is recognised by the IATA code of SXB. Over a million passengers currently pass through the airport every year, and it has a well equipped terminal building with areas for arrivals and departures. Passengers will also find car hire companies available, such as National Strasbourg, and National is most popular for providing car rental services for corporate clients.
The destination is served by several important airline companies, for example, Air France, Brussels Airlines, Iberia and Tunisair, and consists of a single terminal building for all arrival and departure flights. The terminal has two levels and a wide variety of facilities. Car hire companies are found in the arrivals area, and are open throughout most hours of the day, seven days a week. National at this airport location operates from 07:30 to 22:15 on weekdays, on Saturdays from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:15, and on Sundays National is available from 13:00 to 22:15. If you are arriving on a bank holiday, it is best to confirm with National at which times they are open. Although cars can be hired directly over the rental counters, it is recommended to make an advanced reservation, and online is most convenient for the majority of customers.
Extra equipment for the rented car should also be hired in advance. These items could include child seats for infants or young children, satellite navigation systems and luggage racks. Optional equipment is subject to availability, and is therefore best reserved early. Child seats and satellite navigation systems cost a few extra Euro per day of hire, or per rental, but could be a vital part of your journey in France. The road rules of the country require all persons in a vehicle to wear seatbelts and the speed limits indicated should always be minded. Speed traps are quite frequent, and on-the-spot fines could also be issued for speeding. Keep in mind that any GPS or other device that is able to detect radar traps is now considered as illegal in France. As a general guideline, do not exceed the following speeds: 50kph in residential/urban areas, 90kph on open roads, 110kph on dual carriageways and 130kph on motorways.
National is a car rental firm established in 1947, and are a premium, internationally recognised brand serving the needs of business travellers, mainly at airport locations, but they have downtown offices as well. The company’s headquarters are located in St. Louis. In the 1970’s National helped to pioneer the corporate account business, and in 1987, introduced the industry’s first comprehensive frequent-renter program, by the name of Emerald Club. This is a membership available to customers who more frequently hire vehicles from any of National’s rental branches, and is beneficial in regards to saving time and money. Emerald Club members enjoy convenient e-receipts and have the option of ‘Car Choice’, which allows them to quickly choose their vehicle without any lengthy paperwork to complete.
Car rental companies, including National, offer vehicles in a wide range of categories, and cars that are suitable for every occasion. Vehicles found in National’s Economy category, such as the Peugeot 207 1.4, are smaller vehicle models, and they come with some excellent features which may include anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, power steering, driver and passenger airbags and power locks and windows. Although small, they are able to accommodate up to five passengers, and have room for an item or two of luggage. They are also fuel efficient and are driven with a manual transmission. Cheaper rental rates are also offered for vehicles in the Compact Wagon category, such as the Peugeot 308 1.6, and for vehicles of an Intermediate size, similar to the Ford Mondeo 1.6. Larger sedans like the VW Passat 1.8 and wagons similar to the Citroen C5 2.0 are more expensive to hire, but have more room for luggage and may include a GPS unit in their rentals.
Fullsize cars from National include the Audi A4 1.9, and the Mercedes C200 CDI 2.0 is a Fullsize Wagon with a leather interior and folding rear seats. Groups of travellers can hire Vans from National as well, similar to the Citroen Grand Picasso C4 2.0 and Citroen C8 for seven and the Citroen Jumpy 2.2 for eight. National one way hires can be arranged for the majority of vehicles hired, and are when the car is returned to a location other than the one from where it was collected, i.e. Strasbourg Airport. One way hires can be a convenient option, but are often more expensive. National also offers services for disabled customers, such as the rental of hand control equipment and the possibility of a free additional driver when the primary renter is a person unable to drive due to disability. National hand controls are free of charge, but they will require an advanced reservation, at least forty-eight hours prior to the collection of the vehicle.
Passengers hiring a car should be 21 years of age or older, and should have been driving with a license in their home country for at least a year prior to the rental date. A major credit card will also be required for payment of the vehicle. Find out from National if any further documents are required, for example, a return airline ticket or an International Driving Permit.
