Sixt Car Rental at Strasbourg
Sixt Strasbourg Airport
Strasbourg is quite a large French Airport serving the city of the same name, as well as other towns in the Bas-Rhin department, and is located in Entzheim, approximately 10km outside of the city of Strasbourg. In 2011, just over a million passengers passed through the airport, but in the earlier 2000’s, it has seen over two million passengers. Ground transport options are available, as well as rented cars, from companies, such as Sixt Strasbourg. Sixt is a popular choice for car rental around the world, and have a range of innovative services for their customers.
The car rental counters of Sixt are found in front of the arrivals area, and are open during hours which are convenient for arriving passengers. The airport receives flights by the airline companies of Air France, Brussels Airlines, Iberia, Royal Air Maroc and others, from a wide variety of destinations which include Paris, Lyon, Nantes, Amsterdam, Brussels, Prague, Madrid and Casablanca. Passengers arriving at Strasbourg will find Sixt open from 07:30 to 22:30 on weekdays, from 09:00 to 16:30 on Saturdays and from 15:00 to 22:30 on Sundays. Sixt is also available on bank holidays, from 15:00 to 22:30. Sixt Strasbourg Airport has a keybox available for passengers who would like to return their vehicle out-of-office hours. However, Sixt one way hires are allowed, enabling the customer to return the vehicle to a different rental location. One way hires may need an advanced reservation.
Vehicles from car rental companies are always recommended to be reserved in advance, but may be hired directly over the rental counters as well. Nowadays, all car hire companies offer websites that enable online reservations, and other online sites are available as well that support reservations for all the major car rental firms. If any additional item of equipment is needed from Sixt, such as child seats or a satellite navigation system, it is also best reserved early. A child seat or any other item will be an extra expense to your rental. Insurances such as collision damage waiver and theft protection may also need to be added, as they may not be included in the rental quote.
In France, the primary renter is required to be at least 21 years of age or older to rent a car from most vehicle categories, but certain vehicles may only be available to persons 25 years or older. If the renter is under the age of 25, higher rental rates will also be applicable. A valid drivers license must be shown by all drivers registered on the rental agreement at the time of vehicle collection, and payment for the rental will need to be made by one of the major credit cards, which include American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard, Mastercard or Visa. An International Driving Permit may also be required if the renter is from a foreign country and his/her license has not been issued in the European Union. A license printed in a non-Roman alphabet may also need to be accompanied by an IDP.
Vehicles in France are driven on the right-hand side of the road, and the speed limits are taken seriously. Cars may not travel over 50kph in urban/residential areas, over 90kph on open roads, over 110kph on dual carriageways and over 130kph on motorways. Any device which can detect speed traps is considered illegal. All persons in a vehicle should wear seatbelts, in the rear of the car as well if seatbelts are fitted, and no drunken driving is permitted. Many large roads lead from Strasbourg to all parts of the country, and even to cities in the neighbouring country of Germany. The A4 heads to the north of Strasbourg, to Brumath and Haguenau, and the A35 heads south, to Obernai and Sélestat. On the eastern side of the city, the N4, or the E52, provides a link to one of the main roads heading to cities in Germany to the north and south of Strasbourg. Driving in the city of Strasbourg is quite possible as well, however, the historic city centre is better explored on foot.
Small cars from Sixt include the Smart For Two, Ford Ka, Renault Twingo, Fiat Panda, Peugeot 207, Ford Fusion and Renault Clio, while larger models available may be similar to the Peugeot 308 Break, Skoda Octavia Break, Ford Mondeo Turnier, VW Passat Break, Audi A4 Avant and the Renault Megane Scenic. The larger cars are more suitable for families with luggage items to carry, as the smaller cars don’t offer much room for luggage. Most vehicles hired have nice features such as air conditioning, power steering and airbag protection, and come with unlimited mileage. Some may even include a GPS unit in their rentals, such as the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz Classe M and the Mercedes-Benz SLK. Vans ideal for seven or nine passengers could also be available, such as the Ford Galaxy, Ford S-Max, Ford Transit and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Bus.
Many vehicles hired in France have manual transmissions, but some are automatics, and a vehicle with an automatic transmission is used when a passenger requests the use of Sixt hand controls. A person with a lower limb disability is able to make use of the equipment, as it operates the brake and accelerator pedals of the vehicle, but not the car lights, blinkers or windshield wipers. Hand control equipment is free of charge, but will require an advanced reservation.
