Car Hire at Dinard Airport - Information

Dinard Airport is found on the north-western coast of France, nearby the towns of Dinard and Saint-Malo, and is recognised by its official airport code of DNR. It is located in the commune of Pleurtuit, approximately 5km, or 3.1 miles from Dinard, and is therefore commonly referred to as the Dinard-Pleurtuit Airport. The airport is served by the airline companies of Ryanair and Aurigny Air Services, and is generally well equipped for the needs of all its passengers, however, there are limited options for public transport from the airport. For this reason, many passengers rent a car, from one of the Dinard car hire companies. All the international car rental companies are available, offering their customers competitive rental rates.

The airport is a public establishment, handling both domestic and international flights to destinations which include London-Stansted Airport, East Midlands and Guernsey. Although a small France Airport, with only just over 120,000 passengers per annum, it serves as an important gateway to the Ille-et-Vilaine department of the country, and is an efficient airport with various facilities. Once passengers have arrived at the airport, they can find the car hire companies in the main area of the terminal building, and can arrange their vehicle directly over the rental counters. Cars are however, recommended to be reserved in advance. The terminal is easy to navigate, and the rented cars of the various companies are parked in the nearby parking lot, within easy walking distance of the airport facilities.

The Dinard Airport car rental companies include Hertz, Europcar, Avis, National, Easycar, Alamo and Auto Europa. They are all companies with thousands of rental locations around the world, and can be trusted to provide professional service and expert advice. Hertz and Auto Europa are amongst the largest providers of car rental services in the world, and have been established for many years. Hertz is often favoured for their car groups which can be more specifically hired by the vehicle’s make and model, rather than just by category, and Auto Europa offers a variety of pricing options to suit the needs of all customers. Avis and Easycar offer a wide range of vehicles for hire, and Europcar is a well-known presence at the majority of European airports. These three companies offer several additional services as well, and low rental rates. National is perhaps best known for their corporate vehicles and services, while Alamo is an excellent choice for customers on vacation. Whichever company you choose, they are sure to provide you with an excellent car rental experience.

Persons who will be driving the rented car in France will need to be present at the time of vehicle collection, in order to show their valid drivers license, and any other document required by their chosen car hire company. They will also need to be at least 21 years of age in order to hire a car from most companies, with a license held for a year or more prior to the rental dated. For certain vehicle categories, the drivers will need to be 25 years of age or older. These categories usually contain larger or specialty type vehicles. Younger renters, under the age of 25, will also pay an additional amount per day of car hire for young drivers insurance. The additional amount is charged up until a maximum of ten rental days, and may differ between the companies. It is best to have an International Driving Permit if your local license is printed in a non-Roman alphabet, or in a language other than English, and a major credit card will be used for payment of the rental period. Dinard car hire companies accept American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard/Mastercard and Visa.

Along with your vehicle, choose any optional items of equipment necessary for your journey, such as child seats, luggage racks and satellite navigation systems, hand controls for disabled drivers or arrange a one way hire should you be leaving France from a different airport location, and would prefer not to return to Dinard Airport. One way hires can be taken for most vehicles, and can be driven to other European countries as well, however, cross-border rentals may be more expensive. From Dinard Airport, hand controls are free of charge, and used by persons with a lower limb disability, but all other items will come with additional costs. Before leaving the airport, ensure that you are happy with the workings of the vehicle, have the emergency numbers to contact in the case of an accident or breakdown and know which type of fuel to use for the rented car, as it could be either petrol or diesel. Hire cars come with a full tank of fuel, and have usually been cleaned and checked for safety, before the next customer.

The roads leading from the airport are quite simple to follow. The D64 is the main access road of the airport, and takes motorists to Saint-Lunaire, while the D266 is the road to follow to Dinard. The D168 passes the airport on its northern side, and crosses a bridge over the inlet of the English Channel which separates Dinard from Saint-Malo. It leads to the large town of Saint-Malo. Roads from the airport also lead to the N176, for access to the N12, leading to Lamballe, and to the D137 for access to Rennes as well. The N176 also takes motorists further east, to Dol-de-Bretagne and the tourist attraction of Mont St Michel.

Vehicles from the Dinard car rental companies include the Fiat 500, Renault Twingo, Ford Fiesta, Opel Corsa, Fiat Punto and VW Polo as smaller sized vehicles, and the Ford Mondeo, Audi A4, VW Passat and Citroen Grand Picasso C4 as larger vehicles which are perhaps more suited for families and their luggage items. Luxury cars (Mercedes and BMW models), SUVs (Citroen C-Crosser 2.2) and Vans (Renault Traffic) are available as well. Some car hire companies may even offer a selection of convertibles. Contact your chosen Dinard car hire company for all further enquiries.
